Have you been noticing tiny black or white dots popping up on your nose? These pesky dots are forms of acne called blackheads and whiteheads. Before we get to the solutions, let’s understand what these are.
What are Blackheads & Whiteheads?
Our skin has millions of pores on its surface, and blackheads and whiteheads are the results of clogged pores. Pores are nothing, just glorified hair follicles which further have sebaceous glands. These glands produce something called sebum - the while stuff that oozes out from the pimple, yup that’s sebum (mixed with other stuff).
Sebum is an oily and waxy substance that forms a protective barrier to avoid water evaporation on the skin. These are most active on our face's t-zone area but are present on other parts of the body as well.
Pores get clogged due to excess oil production or accumulation of dead skin cells or dirt, which leads to the formation of blackheads and whiteheads. If you have oily skin, (unfortunately) you’ll be more prone to them.
What’s the difference?
Whiteheads, also known as closed comedones, are frequently seen beneath the epidermis. Blackheads are open comedones. The "gunk" settles on the top, and a chemical reaction oxidizes it to harden and create a blackened surface.
How to get rid of them?
Nose or t-zone are the two most likely places where the majority of us get blackheads or whiteheads. While they are pretty harmless, who wants them? Right! So here we have quick and easy solutions to avoid or get rid of blackheads and whiteheads without breaking the bank.
Chocolate face scrub - helps exfoliate the dead skin off gently and unclogs pores.
Extraction: Squeezing them with your nails are not an option. Nuh-uh. Instead, use a peel-off mask or get them extracted by a professional to keep your nose squeaky clean.
Charcoal peel-off mask - Deeply cleanses the pores and reduces their appearance.
